 CrashWerx is back....
CrashWerx is the attempted creative efforts of James Radtke and is always under construction.
I really have no reason to spend time on creating or maintaining this website - other than I enjoy messing around with HTML. For those of you that would even know what this means - the site is dynamically generated and the code was created using vi ;-) No WYSIWYG here...

Why "crash"???

Does there need to be a "why"?
Well, of course there doesn't always need to be why... or if there is a "why" it doesn't necessarilly need to make sense or be true. Think Weapons of Mass Destruction...
I could give you a reason why I have created CrashWerx, but would you believe me?
Seriously though, starting off my career in 1999 at NetRadio.com is where and when I acquired the nickname "crash" from my at-the-time boss Rick Hailey. The task he had asked me to perform was seemingly trivial enough, but neither of us understood what the impact would be. He had asked me to perform some change to the DNS for NetRadio and the change consequently took the place down for a half hour or so. Fortunately, I had enough sense to "back up" everything prior to performing the change, which allowed for a speedy rollback to bring things back to normal. And what a mess "nornal" was.
That place was a whole lot of fun, but what a disaster. At the height of my reign I was in charge of managing 120 or so Real Audio streaming servers running Linux and Real Audio. ...and this was my first real job. When I first started I looked around at things and noticed that one of the farms on the east coast was streaming about 4 times as much as the rest. I hadn't really thought much of it and I thought "wow, that farm must have the cool channels on it" Well, as I looked more into it, I found that the servers had been comprimised and an individual had been streaming pornographic movies with our servers. That was fun explaining that to the management - seeing as they had to pay for the internet connection that the hacker was using. Anyhow... that was NetRadio, and how I became "crash" and the rest...
